It wasn’t a landmark day in the end, but it wasn’t without its share of landmarks either.
Louth weren’t close enough late in the game to put themselves in a position to spring a shock of epic proportions, but the fact that they were responsible for bridging such gaps against Dublin suggests that they did a lot right on the day, which they certainly did. Louth were more pragmatic this time, immediately retreating en masse to their own half for the Dublin kickout, with Cluxton sending uncontested restarts to the 65.
The problem for them was that Dublin’s shooting efficiency, while not quite as high as Louth’s, was still up around where it needed to be, with 20 scores from 31 efforts. The accuracy of Sam Mulroy and Conor Grimes from chances that were hardly gilt-edged kept Louth’s noses in front for much of the first half, with Brian Fenton arcing over 0-3 for Dublin.
