The Department of Integration has stopped contracting additional accommodation for Ukrainian refugees from new or existing providers, an Oireachtas Committee will hear on Thursday morning.
READ MORE: Taoiseach Simon Harris accused of 'misinformation' after stating Sinn Féin deleted budget document “In light of trends in numbers in State-supported accommodation and new Government policy, the Department is not presently contracting additional accommodation for BOTPs from new or existing providers,” the document said.TDs will also be told that over the last 10 years, Ireland has seen a 502 per cent increase in the number of International Protection applicants accommodated, with 26,279 in 2023. This was up from 4,364 in 2014.
Kevin McCarthy, Secretary General of the Department of Integration, will tell PAC that since February 2022, “over 106,000 people have sought temporary protection in Ireland”, with over 79 per cent of these people seeking department–supported accommodation.
