Language Commissioner says Bill publication an important step but warns more action is needed

A Bill designed to improve the delivery of public services in the Irish language does not adequately address some of the most important issues relating to their provision,Mr Ó Domhnaill, whose role includes ensuring compliance by public bodies with statutory obligations under language legislation, said the publication of the Official Languages Bill 2019 was “an important step” in the process of bringing forth a “stronger and more fit-for-purpose” Act.

The Cabinet last week approved the Bill and Mr Ó Domhnaill said there would be opportunities in the weeks ahead “to dissect” any proposed amendments and ensure that weaknesses in the existing legislation are addressed. These are changes to State recruitment policies, the provision of services in Gaeltacht areas and the creation of a language standard that would place a clearer obligation on public bodies to serve the public in Irish.

The Tory landslide and the Irish SeaBoris Johnson's stunning election victory means the Irish Protocol - creating a border in the Irish Sea - will come into effect. tconnellyRTE This is a one-sided analysis based on anti-Brexit sources. A few months ago you were insisting that there would have to be a hard border. This is all conjecture until we know the detail of the FTA. Begrudgery. tconnellyRTE For months you had been lecturing us about how there could be no deal without the backstop. I told you you were wrong, and now you call it 'a relatively soft consent concession'. You are both wrong and arrogant. Keep peddling the EU's propaganda - how's that working out for you ?

'Do Not Consume' water notice issued in Cavan after supply 'significantly compromised'The notice applies to 7,785 people in the areas of Bailieborough, Killinkere, Virginia, Crossbane and Mullagh. Who in their right mind still consumes tap water anyway? There's another element that's too high in Irish drinking water that even concentrates when you boil it. It's fluoride, added purposely because of mandatory fluoridation in Rep.of Ireland. Crazy eh? When you add boiled water to infant formula the baby gets 14X an adult dosage!
