Damien English: there is no statute of limitations for political accountability

English, when applying for permission with his wife Laura, neglected to include the highly relevant fact that he already owned a property.

There is an old saw that politicians must adhere to a higher standard than anybody else. That is not true. It’s the same standard as anybody else. However, if a politician is exposed for an omission, or a lack of candour, or of a lack of honesty, or for cutting corners, the price, of course, is much higher. For an office holder, it inevitably means resignation.

I do feel sympathy for the man in question but his party stinks and should be dissolved.

Damien English resigns as a Minister after failing to declare propertyThe Fine Gael TD did not to inform Meath County Council that he owned a property when he put in a planning application. Nobody in Meath Co Co knew that English, a former county councillor and then TD, Owen Ed a house in Co Meath? Pull the other one. He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near politics ever again. This happens too often, zero transparency in Irish politics. He should be banned from running as a TD or senator now only way to stop corruption in politics
