Professor John Sweeney says backloading the 7% commitment to the second half of this decade is not good

A leading climate change expert has raised significant concerns about how the programme for government published yesterday intends to achieve a 7% average reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

He said this would leave what he termed "a legacy" to the next government, rather than achieving the "necessary reductions" during the current Government's term - through methods such as "herd reduction". He also described as "disturbing" the use of the term "biogenic methane" in the programme for government because, he said, the "atmosphere recognises no such distinction."

Prof Sweeney said these problems were "compounded by the delay" in quantifying annual emissions figures. He said the only statistics currently available are from 2018 - meaning that "the 2025 performance will only be available in 2027."

We produce 60 million of the global 2019 figure of 38 billions tons CO2..If we went to net zero carbon in a year would make no difference to global CO2 levels...EU and UK produce 11% of global CO2 if they went back to pre industrial age would make no difference to global levels.

No big surprises in health area of programme for govtThere are no big surprises in the health section of the new draft programme for government. No, the money isn’t there. It’s step by step, but at least we have co-operation and consensus. In defence of Mr. Varadkar, Europe left it too late. The North South, even East West Divide. Give him credit for that. He held it together. Equally, if Sinn Fein dont perform to launch Mary Lou’s political narcissistic ambitions, having being rescued. You are gone back to your big Mansion. Message to you Mary Lou. I am watching you and Gerry. You fxxx up. It’s Mr. Doherty and Mr. Broin.

PAY THE FUCKIN STAFF!!!! If they were half as quick at capping their own salaries I would be impressed. Hopefully this scheme also provides a way to ensure staff are paid decent wages, too.
