Ciara Phelan column: Insulting to suggest young Sinn Fein voters don’t care about IRA atrocities ciaraphelan_

Young voters have been slapped with ignorant insults as the country scrambles to form a government, but the oldies couldn’t be any more two-faced.

Sinn Fein voters have been told they should be ashamed for voting in a party so closely linked to the IRA. We are fortunate to never have experienced the devastation first hand, but we are not a group of uneducated moral-less bunch of lefties. But they voted for change and that only. The Shinners are the only party offering some light to what has been a very dark time under Fine Gael and Fianna Fail’s tenure. Those disgusted by voters’ decision should take a good look in the mirror. Because the person staring back at them has ranted and raved about the shambolic state of our economy, housing and health system.

Thousands of children, men and women on the streets without a home to call their own. A generation watching their sick grandparents in inhumane conditions on hospital corridors.

McDonald says IRA has 'gone away' after Harris commentsSinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has said that as far as she is concerned the IRA does not exist and 'the war is over'. It comes after Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said he agreed with the PSNI view that the IRA army council oversees both Sinn Féin and the IRA. The destruction of Martin in the Dail yesterday evening was a sight to behold. Which Ard Fheis was Michelle O'Neill voted in at? I'm not saying that most Sinn Féin supporters are former republican terrorists, but most former republican terrorists are Sinn Féin supporters.
