Ciara Mageean could make more Irish athletics history tonight as she goes in search of a medal at the World Championships in Budapest.
The Irishwoman will run in the 1500m final four years on from her first appearance in a global, outdoor final. Since then she’s developed into a genuine world beater and comes into this evening’s race in the form of her life. If Mageean can do the business she’ll become the first Irish athlete to win a World Championship 1,500m medal in 30 years. Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon is the overwhelming favourite for gold being the current world champion and having recently set a new world record. Mageean though, will be right there if an opportunity presents itself.
