Mageean was running in Manchester as she gots her outdoor season off to a flying start

Mageean, 32, was competing in the British Milers Club meet in Manchester on Saturday evening and finished in 1:58.51, thus taking over half a second off her previous record of 1:59.27.READ MORE: 'Running for Ireland is my superpower' says Olympic medal hopeful Ciara Mageean It wasn't enough to secure her victory, however, with 17-year-old British athlete Phoebe Gill first home in 1:58.08.

Mageean holds the national records over 800m, 1500m and One Mile. She is looking to build on a highly successful 2023 season that saw her finish fourth in the Women’s 1500m at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last August.Sarah Healy, who competed in the same race, finished in fourth place - producing a new PB time of 2:00.86 that moved her to eighth on the Irish All-Time List.

Meanwhile, Danielle Hill booked a second ticket for Paris by producing a new Irish record of 24.68 in the 50m freestyle at the national championships, which was inside the Olympic qualifying time of 24.70. Hill became the first Irish woman to break the 60 second mark for the 100m backstroke during the week.
