The new bill will also provide circumstances in which employers can refuse to offer remote working.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar Image: Sam Boal Tánaiste Leo Varadkar Image: Sam Boal TÁNAISTE LEO VARADKAR has said that a bill on the right to request to work remotely is set to go to Cabinet tomorrow.

The new framework will also provide circumstances in which employers can refuse to offer remote working. Varadkar says that he hopes to have the bill enacted over the next several months, and that he doesn’t want things to go back to the old, pre-Covid normal. He said that it would be updated as part of a transition period for the next few months, following the removal of almost all Covid-19 restrictions.

Nanny state stuff

Brilliant with the housing crisis in major towns + cities there is no way jobs that can be done remotely should require that the role holder move to a city or town to be near an office they don’t need to be in in the first place. Leave those houses for those who have to be there

Pure populism again from ffg. Why didn't they do that to begin with. Now that they are hemorrhaging in the polls they try buy some votes to stay relevant.

I wonder if LeoVaradkar can confirm if the big companies here can outsource most of their work to 'remote workers' whilst being based here on favorable tax terms without the need to hire locally/nationally?

All those things should have been done before they gave the green light for people being dragged back into offices
