The Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland has called on RTÉ to remove what he described as "deeply offensive and blasphemous clip", which was broadcast as part of a New Year's Eve countdown programme.
He continued: "To broadcast such a deeply offensive and blasphemous clip about God & our Blessed Mother Mary during the Christmas season on 'NYE Countdown Show' on @RTE, @RTEOne & on Eve of the Solemn Feast of Mary, Mother of God is insulting to all Catholics and Christians". 1.
Monty Python skit on religion was funny in fairness. RTE sketch was about as funny as a fire in an orphanage.

As someone who is Catholic and prays. As offensive as it was I still reacted with a oh shit and giggled. I thought part of being Irish was having the super power to laugh at anything. At least an apology was issued and hopefully that helps the people that genuinely felt attacked.

It was an excellent sketch. As a national broadcaster, RTE needs to reflect all opinions. Many many Irish people feel the bible stories are akin to bad children's books which are full of moral hypocrisy. Understandably the church is sensitive on the issues of consent and rape.
