Anne Doyle Opens Up About Being Suspended from RTE

The former RTE newsreader explained that she was definitely suspended twice and she had a “feeling” that she was suspended for a third time too. “I was suspended twice and the third time, technically I’m not sure if I was or not, because I was summoned in by the then-Director of News. He was a man who didn’t care for me, nor I for him. “He was oddly shy about the whole business. I was standing there and it was quarter to one and I was thinking, ‘You better get this over with’.“I said, ‘Right’. I suppose I suspended myself in a manner of speaking, because I had visions of myself still standing there at one o’clock and it wasn’t going to really work out well.”

Anne retired from RTE just before she turned 60 years old. She pointed to the time when the market crash and the recession hit Ireland as one of the reasons for stepping back.“Everyday you went in and there was a new catastrophe. People were losing their homes and their businesses were going whallop. It was a dreadful time.”“I felt that I had enough,” she said. “This sounds rather precious because a job is a job and a very handy thing. I was very glad to get paid.

The former RTE star explained that she had a very busy schedule working between television and radio.
