The property at 40 Herbert Park was bulldozed this morning.

The property at 40 Herbert Park, which once belonged to The O’Rahilly, was bulldozed by a company developing the site at around 6.30am this morning.

The house was built in 1907 and The O’Rahilly, the only 1916 leader to die in battle, was the first occupant of the property. His widow lived there until her death in the 1960s. An architectural heritage report carried out on behalf of the company found that removing the house would “not represent a loss of significant architectural or historic fabric”.In an act of wanton vandalism of our revolutionary heritage the Herbert Park home of the 1916 Rising leader The O'Rahilly was demolished today, despite a peservation order.— Aengus O Snodaigh TD September 29, 2020

Who is the developer? They can only proceed with planning approval .. has they obtained approval

Make them rebuild it as it was stone for stone.

Náireach.... Greed is something else....

How many of you cry babies visited the building? Probably never heard of him before this happened. You want your cake and eat it too. If the owner doesn't own it, then who does?

And this is what's been done in public, imagion what they get up to behind our backs

Obviously done intentionally corporate greed is right figured they will do a few golf trips with brown envelopes and problem solved slap on the wrist seen time and time again the one thing the state is good at is dragging things out in the hope people forget what a loss 😞

An investigation post the vandalism. Chocolate tea pot springs to mind.

Think someone was doing the ‘do without permission ask for forgiveness’ approach, as they didn’t get what they wanted, there has to be proper penalties for planning preaches

How did Dublin city council not know about this.

😡😡😡😡

a bit late now !!!!! Well done DCC..😡

Filth

So it was passed 2 weeks ago for this building to be listed. They will regret it

This has angered me 😡

Disgraceful

Sure you can never have enough apartments 😡Typical developer greed

Rebuild and some jailtime for the offenders who would have been well aware of the protected status granted to the building but nonetheless decided to ignore it.

If we kept every house someone famous lived in we’d be tripping up over ruins in this city. Typical outrage over nothing, buildings were deemed to have no architectural or archeological significance! It was a load of SF councilers looking to preserve it. People need to cop on.

Roll on the next election WeVotedForChange SinnFein EIRE

FG won lads. Expect more.

Sure look where they built Dublin City Council Offices! They also pulled down the Vet College around the corner over night!

Decrepit houses must never be touched!

As joyce once commented Ireland is the sow that eats its own farrow.
