From Barry Keoghan and Samatha Barry cutting a dash on the red carpet to Alexa Chung and Billie Eilish sporting Irish design, it’s safe to say that Ireland was well represented at the 2023 Met Gala .fashion event of the year, and last year was dedicated to celebrating the exhibition entitled ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’, honouring the late designer while inviting Hollywood’s elite to pay homage to a man who helmed fashion houses that included Chanel, Fendi, and his own eponymous line.
A fundraising event from the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, the Gala has been perhaps more accurately dubbed the Super Bowl of Fashion. Celebrities ascended the stairs of the Met in the glare of camera lenses, and looks varied from references to the designer’s beloved cat, Choupette, to new iterations of Lagerfeld’s signature black-and-white uniform.
“Working in fragile tulle, edged with lace, and interpreting embellishment as armour, the design features existing signature Simone Rocha fabrics that were repurposed and patchworked.
Taking to Instagram to post her look, the model captioned the photo, “Baby’s first met” as she debuted her pregnancy on the red carpet alongside tennis star Serena Williams and Rihanna.. The Irish actor’s had a lot of eyes on him on red carpets and award ceremonies alike of late, and he is yet to let us down. Donning a tartan tweed suit by Burberry, this Oscar-nominee certainly made a splash for his Met Gala debut.
