U.S. President Donald Trump has officially nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday is set to nominate Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, capping a dramatic reshaping of the federal judiciary that will resonate for a generation and that he hopes will provide a needed boost to his reelection effort.

For Trump, whose 2016 victory hinged in large part on reluctant support from conservative and white evangelicals on the promise of filling the seat vacated by the death of Scalia with a conservative, the latest nomination brings his first term full circle. Even before Ginsburg's death, Trump was running on having confirmed in excess of 200 federal judges, fulfilling a generational aim of conservative legal activists.

Within hours of Ginsburg's death Trump made clear he would nominate a woman for the seat, and later volunteered he was considering five candidates. But Barrett was the early favourite, and the only one to meet with Trump. The staunch conservative had become known to Trump in large part after her bitter 2017 appeals court confirmation on a party-line vote included allegations that Democrats were attacking her Catholic faith. The president also interviewed her in 2018 for the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy, but Trump ultimately chose Brett Kavanaugh.

Barrett's nomination could become a reckoning over abortion, an issue that has divided many Americans so bitterly for almost half a century. The idea of overturning or gutting Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that legalized abortion, has animated activists in both parties for decades. Now, with the seemingly decisive shift in the court's ideological makeup, Democrats hope their voters will turn out in droves because of their frustration with the Barrett pick.

Bird's of a feather.....!!!!

It would be tough to say the Democrats wouldn't if they are in the same boat.

I listened to her speak and she seems like a fine choice. I also listened to Trumps speech and it was also good and positive. He will win the election over this choice.

She is a good choice.

So the pro woman groups & feminist should be ecstatic by this pick....... sarcasm

POTUS I think it is pretty hypocritical for Trump to ask the media not to attack the new justice personally. Trump attacks everyone and anyone personal or otherwise!🤪

Fantastic choice! Congrats Amy

Here come the tears from the leftists

Crowd jeers as Trump pays respects at court to GinsburgU.S. President Donald Trump was booed Thursday as he paid respects to late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He plans to nominate a replacement this weekend for the liberal justice, best known for her advancement of women's rights. I knew you wouldn't pass up a chance to smear Trump. You're just as sick as the hecklers, someone died. Have some damn respect. Stop turning her death into a spectacle. CTV has been tweeting this all day. A far left crowd haters jeering. What CTV won’t report is thousands of peaceful patriots chanting “We Love You” in Florida. Glorious. This man is one of the most hated persons in the world, he shields himself, he has self-congratulating rallies, he runs from runs hard questions, and throws tantrums at softball questions. He deserves every last bit of it.
