Researchers have found that as the amount of carbon dioxide in the air increases, so does the amount of CO2 taken in by trees. However, this alone is not enough to avert the harmful effects of climate change from human-caused CO2 emissions.

TORONTO -- Human activity has significantly increased the amount of carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere – and new research suggests that trees are working harder than ever to try and mitigate it.

Researchers in the United Kingdom sprayed carbon dioxide into a mature oak forest three years in a row, to see how the trees would react.– the process that converts the harmful greenhouse gas into oxygen – by 33 per cent. In other words, the trees were able to adapt to the newly CO2-rich atmosphere and do more to clean it up.

However, as CTV News Science and Technology Specialist Dan Riskin explains in this week's Riskin Report, the trees' mighty efforts aren't enough on their own to counteract the real increase in CO2 emissions caused by humans.

Trees, the unsung superheroes of this Earth! 🤗

Plant trees with the carbon tax the government takes in then eventually get rid of the stupid tax.

For years greenhouse operators have been enriching the air with carbon dioxide to increase crop yields.

How about removing the phrase 'work harder to' from your tweet and adding the word 'more' after the word absorb. They remove more carbon dioxide, how hard the work to do it has not been addressed!

Carbon dioxide concentration is increasing and so is oxygen ! Shouldn’t oxygen be less due to all the combustion of fuels!

Should grow fields of cannabis for the economy.

False. Co2 is heavier then air

I don’t get it. Are they going to strike?

Not surprising at all. Basic chemistry drives photosynthesis. More substrates = more products. Also I’m sure there are epigenetic changes in response to these substrates and by products

Lol. They needed a study to find this out? Common sense would figure it out easier. Waste of time and money

Please phucking raise our taxes more!! Take more please, only way to solve this is if we all pay more. TAKE MORE

Always thought the more of it there was the greater the growth. Moving the goal posts once again.
