After enduring a loss, Jane Philpott wanted to be brave. If not for herself, for the young women who looked up to her. federalelection2019

When she launched her bid for re-election in May, months after being booted out of the Liberal caucus, she said she felt an obligation to the people of her Markham-Stouffville riding. Parents in that riding had told her about the impact she had on their daughters for standing up for what she believed in.

And so Philpott, once a Liberal—the one who unseated the Markham-Stouffville Conservative incumbent in 2015, the rookie MP who held three high-profile cabinet positions, and the star politician who resigned amid Justin Trudeau’s handling of the SNC-Lavalin scandal—decided she’d seek office once again. This time as an Independent.

When Stouffville mayor, Iain Lovatt watched his youngest daughter, who is 18, vote in the advance polls while she was home from university, Lovett saw that her first-ever ballot carried special meaning. He has long advocated for better representation of women in politics. So when Philpott was kicked out of the Liberal caucus in Parliament, he had a conversation with his daughters, explaining everything Philpott had to give up to push for what she thought was right.

For better or for worse Phipott did not know how to work within the system we have to get things done she wanted to get done -- and she called everyone else in her former party hippocrites. That was actually not true and did not help her case.

janephilpott will be back. She will be remembered as a person who was stood up for what's right. Both Girls and Boys have learnt from this great individual. God be with her.

Trudeau needs an Alberta unity strategy if he wins - Macleans.caAnd yes, it will have to include a pipeline. No he doesn't. He tried already and the conservative media just whipped Albertans into a rage frenzy. It's pointless. Why waste political capital on ingrates you mean like last time when he dropped $750million on Alberta to stabilize their economy? It already DOES include a pipeline. Could it be you're as dense as Albertans (and Rex Murphy) who seem not to give credence to the fact that the LIBERAL gov't spent $4+ billion to rescue a pipeline from abandonment by a Texas-based company's Canadian subsidiary? The mind boggles.

The Munk debate that never was - Macleans.caShannon Gormley: In this nasty, empty campaign, how would a debate on foreign policy have gone? Safe to say, pretty badly. When half the world are not really talking to us he would have had a tough time. If we do end up with a Liberal/NDP coalition we have a foreign minister who is banned from Russia and the NDP leader (role tbd) who is banned from India, promising!! acoyne Thank you for that!! It's too good....and I really needed the laugh. Yes it would have been because none of the leaders except for one have the gonads to answer a question directly. PPC2019

The final 338Canada projection: The most uncertain federal election in decades - Macleans.caPhilippe J. Fournier: The night before the election, there is no certainty in the numbers. We could end up with the first popular vote and seat split in 40 years. This is all about Canada's future, and our children's & grandchildren's future. It's all well good for politician's to stand up spout off. But, it doesn't pay the college tuition fees or find students housing or pay the rent or even buy groceries. Vote smarter.. acoyne Wait - how many Liberal seats does Macleans think there were in Winnipeg? You are showing popular vote in that article. Why not their seat prediction?
