“Any change to routine is difficult for kids on the spectrum,” said Laura Kirby-McIntosh, president of the Ontario Autism Coalition and high-school teacher with the Peel District School Board. She said it is particularly difficult for young children to adapt.“I will a 100-per-cent say that this strike has had a serious impact on not only their routines, like their everyday routines, but also their behaviour,” she said.
“He goes ... 'If you add one or two more [students], I will never get attention,’” she said. Despite the challenges her family faces, Ms. Crookston said she fully supports the striking teachers. Ms. Marshall said she feels lucky to have family to help out with child care, but knows a lot parents who are using vacation days to stay home with their children.“When parents are stressed, that exacerbates kids’ stress,” said Linda Cameron, a professor emeritus at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto.
The cuts this government has imposed on students has way more damaging effects on students than any strike. Another headline brought to you by Sflecce and the Vaughn Working Families me thinks!!
Please...I’ve survived more snow days than strike days! I’m good 💪
Lol disrupting routines? My kid has missed maybe 4 days this year because of the strikes. You guys are clueless.
I have seen years where the kids have missed more school due to snow days than they have missed this year due to strikes. Quit demonizing teachers.
The damage to children is being done by the Ford government ... not the teachers!
Remember that Doug Ford started this mess!
strikeshurtkids
Summer school is necessary to make up for the lost time.
There is a proverb , “挟天子以令诸侯“-
Including the children of striking teachers, BTW.
I saw kids out tobogganing during strike day - damn them - being outdoors and having fun - that should set them back in their schooling.
Maybe more parents will choose private, home school.
Classes of 40 and forced ELearning will be much worse.
So if that is the case then why don’t to demand that Lecce get to the bargaining table, bargain in good faith (that is without lying) and solve thus problem immediately!
Children are way better off in Canada than most other countries. Our funding for education is way more than many other counties. Fund more for (or in the name of education) is fine. More funding for poverty too and seniors & Healthcare. We can afford it. It’s just tax$$$.
The Ford government has legislated decreased wages for teachers and increased class sizes for our children. They do NOT want to negotiate. THAT will have a long lasting damaging effect on kids and adults! The only thing of value Lecce brings to negotiations are his $2500 suits!
While the strike(s) are not good for anyone this 'damaging effect' BS is just another example of snowflake psychology. Nothing is constant in life, and if you cannot deal with change then your life will be crap. Period!
fordnation sure is bringing the whole damaging effect to Ontario these days.
Irresponsible government can have even more damaging effects. onpoli
Can you guess what else damages children? Go on, G&M, give it a little thought. What else could possibly make life terrible for children in Ontario?
You know what else is destructive? An underfunded, out-dated education system.
Days off school are less damaging than what will occur with the proposed changes. Why is the government not recognizing the importance schools play in educating children and providing a social safety net. It should not be about money, our children need adequate resources.
Remember the teachers ruining striking for the kids
So can poverty, abusive relationships, stress, mental health, LGBTQ identities and sturggle, POC struggle, bullying, traumatic sexual assault, assault, a loved one dying, loss of employment, lack of food, sickness, illness, injury, and being lost in a class size of over 30 kids.
Massive cuts to public ed budgets also have long term impacts on children.
Parents figured out the cost/benefit analysis: Under Ford a JK student faces 2730 days with fewer teachers and support until 2034 = loss. Ten strike days in 2020 mean 2720 days with better learning conditions for 14 years = more Governments come & go - Parents are in it for life!
Did Lecce come up with this headline for you?
Unfortunately the kids are always the ones suffering as they are used as a weapon to make every government bow down to teacher’s demands!
Stop with this crap, kids are not the fragile little beings the press wants to portray in this day & age. Kids are strong, they comprehend & they are resilient to much worse than a teachers strike. Quit treating children like china dolls when it’s adults who can’t deal disruption
RockinSportz stop blaming the teachers for this government's incompetence
