Ottawa general manager Pierre Dorion is pleased to have a key part of the club’s blueline signed for another two seasons.
“They enjoy their surroundings, my kids are in school in Ottawa and my wife enjoys our neighborhood so those are all boxes that are checked for us. Right from the start, I was very comfortable with my teammates and the coaching staff, plus knowing as long as I’ve known him.Hamonic has suited up for 793 games in his NHL career and is a strong competitor. His teammates like him because he’ll do whatever it takes to help the club, is a strong penalty killer and does a great job blocking shots.
The trio of Brannstrom, Hamonic and Bernard-Docker will push each other for playing time, but the reality is the club is also going to have to deal with injuries so you can never have enough depth. Since the 25-year-old DeBrincat doesn’t want to sign a long-term extension with Ottawa, the club is trying to make a trade because the Senators don’t want him walking away as an unrestricted free agent next summer.
