Nearly a year after the Senators shipped Mark Stone and Matt Duchene out of town, Erik Brannstrom and Vitaly Abramov reveal what it's like to deal with the hype and expectations that came with being part of those trades ⤵️ (Via ByMikeShulman)

, who were acquired by the Ottawa Senators around last year’s trade deadline as part of the packages for Mark Stone and Matt Duchene, respectively.

The 20-year-old admitted that, perhaps, the weight of those expectations spawning from the trade and the stress involved with trying to reach them were at the root of his “slow start.” Brannstrom — who was given a heads-up and was following along on the Internet on deadline day when he found he was being traded — said he was aware of the pressure that comes with being forever linked to a trade of that magnitude, but was excited about joining the Senators nonetheless.

“… I got down here and got my confidence back, and I think it is going better and better all the time now, so it’s fun to score some goals and get some points again.”Just a few days before the Senators landed Brannstrom, Abramov was a little more caught off guard when the Columbus Blue Jackets informed him of his trade to Ottawa.

Abramov — who has 34 points in 42 AHL games, earning him a cup of coffee in Ottawa earlier this season — has a different approach to handling the pressures of being forever linked to a blockbuster deal.

Senators ByMikeShulman Sad return. Lost Hoffman, Turris, and Stone for Brannstrom essentially because Boedker and Abramov are not NHL quality players. At the moment, neither is Brannstrom, but still, how do you lose 3 first line quality players and get no bona fide top 6 or top pairing d men. Sad
