Policing organizations in Saskatchewan have been discussing the implementation of body-worn cameras to increase transparency.

Michelle Stewart is a professor at the

, as well as a community advocate. She doesn’t feel putting a camera on an officer will satisfy some of the concerns citizens have regarding police conduct.“I think sometimes, there’s an investment in body cameras because people are finding out about acts of police brutality because they have been filmed on social media,” said Stewart. “We have to ask what it means when the police officers are the ones holding the camera.

“There’s the cost associated with actually purchasing the product the body camera itself, and the technology that comes with that,” Fisher said. After the purchase of the cameras, there would also be costs surrounding the storage, maintenance, and human resources side of handling the footage.

Calls to defund and dismantle police forces are growing, but what exactly does that mean? Many look to the example of Camden, New Jersey, when discussing what cities may look to achieve on police reform It means there’s a bigoted attack against police for political reasons, and nobody is interested in examining data to come to competent decisions on change. That’s why it’s looting, far right accusation, smearing of anyone who objects without listening. Most police forces have been trying to get away from duties such as mental health response for years. The question should be posed to social services why they continuously refuse to do those jobs. All the crocodile fears the media is having about covid-19 spread from the Black Lives Matter protests have failed connect the emotional undercurrent in many respects the driver of these protests to the fact the Black and Brown youth have already lost their grandparents to covid.
