“Both sides are gathering information and having some discussions.' The ArizonaCoyotes and Taylor Hall's camp weren't going to discuss a new deal until the off-season, but the NHL's hiatus opened up an opportunity to slowly wade into those talks now.

For the NHL’s 31 general managers, the season pause brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic has spawned a unique situation — not simply in the sense that everything feels fairly unprecedented at the moment, but in the opening of a new window in which to make some decisions.Taylor Hall

and his potential future with the Coyotes — a future that’s reportedly being discussed once again amid this break in league action. The former Hart Trophy winner joined the organization in December via a seven-piece trade with the New Jersey Devils, posting 27 points through 35 games with the club before league play came to a halt. With unrestricted free agency around the corner following this season, it appeared talks between GM John Chayka and Hall’s agent, Darren Ferris,But given the current situation, the off-season’s come early, in a sense.

“I have shared some calls with Darren. I think we’re both just trying to get our head wrapped around this scenario here and how it affects the Coyotes; how it potentially affects Taylor. It’s unique,” Chayka. The Coyotes manager added that talks haven’t progressed to ironing out details of a potential contract, however. “I don’t have an answer for you other than to say, no, we haven’t exchanged numbers or anything like that.

Many topics covered in a wide-ranging interview with Coyotes GM John Chayka: Taylor Hall, Conor Garland, COVID‑19 testing, staff pay, Gila River Arena ice, RFAs & the challenge of working remotely.

ArizonaCoyotes Could you imagine picking up Hall for a playoff run and the season gets canceled and you lose him regardless. Many teams who made deadline trades for a playoff push could regret them.
