Canadian Gypsum Company is investing more than $200 million to build a wallboard manufacturing plant in southern Alberta.

The CEO said being in Alberta will mean they are closer to their customers and that the plant will be powered by a nearby, soon-to-be-built solar plant, which is expected to reduce CO2 emissions equivalent to removing 10,000 cars from Canadian roads.Article content

“We are currently shipping most of the product that comes into this market all the way from Eastern Canada and you can imagine the supply chain issues with that, and then that is not very environmentally friendly. So we believe that this will be the most sustainable wallboard plant anywhere in North America.”Representatives from CGC Inc., Wheatland County and the Alberta government announce the development of a wallboard manufacturing plant near Carseland.

Griffin said having less red tape and lower taxes — an approach Kenney’s government has taken to drive investment — was a factor in investing in Alberta, but that they chose to come to the province because of a “spirit of co-operation” in the region.
