RBC report says Ottawa's targets for more new Canadians needed to combat demographic and economic challenges

Record numbers of immigrants are on their way and they can’t get here soon enough, according to a new report by Royal Bank of Canada’s economics department.

Since then, international travel restrictions have eased, allowing immigration to rebound by 400,000 at the end of 2021. The numbers continue climb in 2022. Regardless of Canada’s position in relation to other nations, the Royal Bank researchers argue that an ageing population means there will be fewer people of working age to support the economy. In 1990, there were six people aged 15-64 for every one person over the age of 65; today, there are 3.5 people of working age for every one person over 65. “The tighter this ratio gets, the more acute economic and fiscal strains will become,” the report said.

As long as RBC pays their way.

I'm not anti-immigrant...I'm anti immigration. If we build one house and create one living wage job...allow one immigrant. Immigration benefits the wealthy and starves the middle and lower classes.

Oh ya that’s smart. We don’t have enough housing as it is. Immigration is costing us money. But RBC is all apart of the WEF and the great reset. Shameful !!!

And where will they be housed? There's a shortage right now.

What focus? Trades, service and hospitality, low pay, professionals?

How about no

Let them in but limit them from areas with housing issues. We need immigrants but we need to make sure the people already here (including immigrants) can afford to live here. More demand = higher prices. Cool this market.

Is RBC planning on building the housing to accommodate them, in addition to catching up to the affordable accommodation needs of our current, growing population? We should PAUSE immigration until we can AT LEAST house those who live here, then only at a rate we can accommodate!

Not enough houses

just make sure it's 'good' immigration.

That should help housing prices. 🙄

Yeah....no.

Canada cannot absorb the immigrants m the numbers Trudeau wants to see. The solution = more….?

We don't have housing. Of course the 'economist' wants the Ponzi scheme to rage on, but we need change and we need to stop listening to these rich old white men.

Lol of course.

I guess the liberals need more voters huh?

Posthaste: Canadians fear a retirement crisis is brewing as interest rates riseSeventy-two per cent believe saving for retirement is 'prohibitively expensive' The 'elites' are essentially psychopaths who don't care who dies as long as they are comfortable. Destroy their comfort, crush their resistance and make them beg for mercy, or suffer. Mass mobilization, general strikes and direct action. Grow a spine, win a future. Interests rates rising is not a bad thing for those of us who lived within their means, paid off their mortgages and didn’t t buy a new vehicle every three years! Inflation sucks, but anybody with a brain knew Zippy’s policies were going to cause this eventually… Consider this… CPPIB (as of 2019) has 8 percent of its funds invested in China and has previously indicated it plans to increase that significantly in the next few years. That’s 43 billion Canadian dollars sunk into a county which openly threatens global stability.
