Fed chair Jerome Powell said on Wednesday that a bigger risk facing the U.S. central bank is persistent inflation that starts to let public expectations about prices drift higher

There is a risk U.S. Federal Reserve interest rate increases will slow the economy too much, but the bigger risk is persistent inflation that starts to let public expectations about prices drift higher, Fed chair Jerome Powell said Wednesday.

While “there is a risk” the Fed slows the economy more than needed to control inflation, Powell said, “I would not agree that is the bigger risk. The bigger mistake would be to fail to restore price stability.” Fed policy-makers now see the target federal funds rate rising to 3.4 per cent by the end of the year, above the level policy-makers feel is needed to begin restricting the economy in the long run.

But the path to that so-called “soft landing” is becoming “significantly more challenging” the longer inflation lasts and raises the chance that public inflation expectations become unmoored, Powell said.

Same here in Germany The obvious solution to airport chaos is just not quite possible yet. If we could just clone Omar Alghabra, everything would right itself instantly. Teehee

FIRST READING: Are Conservatives poised to split again?NDP also has a plan to fight inflation ... with more inflation Too many Conservatives have become afraid of being true Conservatives. They think being 'Liberal Light' will bring them back to power. This has already failed twice with Andrew Scheer and Erin O'Toole. More of a conservative huge wave coming with Pierre. People are tired of the corruption with the liberals, zero accountabilities and continuous cover ups! I think there is space for a centre right party. One defined by fiscal restraint, promotion of personal freedoms, and minimizing government control. This party should also step us away from Globalist and woke Marxist ideology.
