The municipality was not considering an evacuation as of Sunday afternoon and had plans in place to power the water treatment system and hospital should the ATCO lines be disrupted, Parks Canada said, stressing that the wildfire currently poses no direct risk to the townsite. “It has shown some growth in the last burning period, but it’s expected given the terrain and the fuel conditions and the weather that we were experiencing yesterday,” Ellsworth Sunday morning.Article content
“It’s close, but it’s definitely got enough distance away that it allows our helicopters to safely work and put water on that edge,”Other threatened structures include a warden’s cabin and the historic Moberly Homestead. Ellsworth said the fire was still a kilometre away from the homestead, while the Snaring warden’s cabin — whose sole resident has been evacuated — is guarded by structure protection sprinklers.
