Have you been affected this weekend by the ER closures at the Montfort Hospital or the Carleton Place and District Hospital? CTV's Natalie van Rooy would like to chat with you. Email Natalie.vanrooybellmedia.ca

The emergency department at the Montfort Hospital has reopened for the day Sunday, but will close overnight for a second night, as it deals with an "unprecedented shortage" of nurses.

"You can get sick in the middle of the night. What are you going to do if you have a heart attack in the middle of the night?" said one person outside the Montfort Hospital on Saturday. "You're going to have to go to another hospital." Residents seeking care Saturday evening and Sunday evening are being asked to travel to other emergency departments in the city, but the Ottawa Hospital warns patients could see longer-than-usual wait times in the emergency departments at the Civic Campus and General Campus.

The Ottawa Hospital says you should call 911 or visit your closest emergency department in an emergency. "They are overworked, morale is practically non-existent, they're not getting time off – it's horrendous," said Rachel Muir, ONA Local 83 bargaining president and a registered nurse at the Ottawa Hospital."Things are bad. Care is being given but basic care," Muir said on Saturday. "Nurses don't have the time or the personnel or even the equipment to give the care they're trained to give.

The Queensway Carleton Hospital says patients will experience "longer than usual wait times" in the emergency department this weekend due to patient volumes, while the longest wait to see a doctor at the CHEO emergency department Saturday evening was over three and a half hours.

A strong leader would lead from the standpoint that hospital closure is not an option. Universities have done a great job building a MBA programs for hospital admin. but that doesn't necessarily translate into the leadership needed now. Thry need someone to turn this around now!

Emergency department at Ottawa's Montfort Hospital reopens; closing again tonightThe Montfort Hospital ER will be closed between 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m., forcing residents in the east end needing emergency care to travel eight kilometres to the Ottawa Hospital General Campus. So fordnation what do you do if you're in need of emergency care? Die? I was there June 10th until 2am and wait time then was 13hrs and I was in an MVA with serious injuries. This just makes pressure on other ERs more intense. That night people were in intense pain around me and staff were run off their feet. The system is broken. Thanks fordnation .....
