More than 3,200 companies have offered to help produce medical equipment since the government put out a call less than two weeks ago

The Government of Canada placed an order with Canadian manufacturers to produce ventilators, test kits and surgical masks to ensure a local supply of critical medical gear for frontline health care providers battling the coronavirus pandemic.

“The entire world is trying to get its hands on the various equipment needed to fight this virus. That is why we know it will be important to have made-in-Canada solutions,” Trudeau said at his daily news conference. Thornhill agreed to build 500 of its portable life support ventilator units, rugged devices originally designed for military use in field hospitals or in patient transport. It will partner with Guelph-based auto parts manufacturing giant Linamar Corp. to scale up production.

Spartan will increase production to make “hundreds of thousands” of tests per week up from tens of thousands, chief executive Paul Lem said in an interview. Spartan plans to ship its first products in a few weeks, Lem said. The company expects to double its workforce, now at 70 people, to meet demand.

It has ordered more than 157.5 million surgical masks, including more than 60.9 million N95 masks, millions of COVID-19 tests and 1,570 ventilators, Anand said, adding that Ottawa is working to secure an additional 4,000 ventilators, maybe more. Mask delivery will begin this week.

I am proud of the way Canada 🇨🇦 is handling this situation. Proud to be Canadian

Illusion of freedom without posibility. Gov always create limit for posibility by tax means the border between life and death.' Bigger tax for dying( before death) to help for strong(gift for stronger). This gap cerate security for gov.

It too late to build who care about people.I sure not liberal. They want to has access to free tax money, to decide.Seniors, handicaps, weak children must go to die not room for then in liberals marxizm. This is socialism idea ' slave has to be strong '

Perhaps sending our stock surgical masks and other supplies to China wasn't such a good idea, especially since what China is shipping out, to help other countries, seems to be defective. cdnpoli COVID19

One has to wonder if this is because the stuff China donated isn't up to par. Happend already in other parts of the world where China donated supplies

Will they be made out of Alberta oil? Asking for jkenney

Thank God we’ll finally be able to get n use our own, not from some low quality supply fr somewhere. This should be a wake up call to the industry n politicians to make us self sufficient in critical equipment n supply and not an eye to that cheap labor they keep salivating about

Is this stuff the world was sourcing from China on a steady state basis? Now global demand way above one country supply? Or was it always made in Canada? Thanks.

Yeah!!!!! Made in Canada!!!!! Remember that when this over!!!!! Support Canadian companies!!!!!!!!!

best quality ever
