'We say ‘Hockey Is For Everyone,’ and that was just disgusting. There’s no place in the game for it.' Blues forward Ryan O'Reilly is doing his part to help out a minor hockey team that endured racism in a tournament last year.

forward Ryan O’Reilly is in Kanata Thursday to take on the Ottawa Senators, and he brought some new friends with him.

O’Reilly’s mother, Bonnie, first saw the word of the incident and immediately called her son to let him know about it so they might be able to take action to help. The idea the O’Reilly’s came up with was to send invitations to the team, which consists of 13-to-15-year-olds from Northern Quebec and Eastern Ontario, to a Blues game when they would be scheduled to face the nearby Senators.

NHL invite for First Nations hockey team subjected to racist tauntsSt. Louis Blues centre Ryan O'Reilly is bringing a team of First Nations hockey players to an NHL game in Ottawa after they were victim to racist chants at a youth tournament last year. This bigotry and Trump-like hatred have no place in Canada. Nobody is superior to anyone. Diversity is our strength and success. Our First Nations deserve respect and support. Respect is earn not a giving The fans were yelling 'gang de sauvages' not because they were natives but because they were playing like savages. Almost crippled one kid with a hit from behind, tons of penalties. My goonish team was called the same thing all the time and we didn't have a single native player.
