. "Schools, restaurants, and even Tim Hortons' amount of cream is down. Those are all things that have slowed down demand for our product right now."
“Watching your hard work literally go down the drain is heart-wrenching. The wasted product represents our livelihood and the massive amount of hard work that takes place year-round to produce it,” she said Sunday in a Facebook post. “The dramatic changes in demand and the related challenges being felt throughout the supply chain have resulted in the need for the disposal of some raw milk, which is extremely unfortunate and difficult,” part of the statement read., the marketing group that represents more than 3,800 dairy farmers across the province, said it has only asked producers to dispose of raw milk once before in its 55-year history.

So people are out there who can't afford groceries and these jerks are wasting milk? 🤦♂️
Let the calves suckle. Make cheese, yogurt, kefir.
Can’t they produce less instead of wasting their effort and the cows’?
Maybe the whole world needs to look at mass production of food and treatment of animals if we are now wasting food like this... just a thought...
How sad
Bread milk eggs meat potatoes and canned vegetables are limited to 2 of each at stores in northern Ontario.
Read article before commenting
Because it isn't selling like it was when we were gating together or working. Duh.
They should be pasteurizing that milk then giving it to food banks
I can take it, make nice butter and cheese out of it
Luckily those poor hungry people can’t benefit
Dairy farmers in Ontario donated over $100,000 just last week to food banks Why not talk about the good things? There are are approximately 300 dairy farms in Ontario I'd call that pretty generous
Really!!! I saw this ystrdy couldn’t believe it,is there not enough poor children in Ontario, Canada what ever? You’d rather dump it,,,
Skimming through the comments. Love it. All of you are keyboard warriors! You don't have a clue what's going on. Do your home work first then comment. You'll sleep better at night
But there have been shortages in the stores!!!! Why on earth would they do this when the demand in stores can’t keep up! Negligent!
the only way to keep the price of milk at $3.00 a liter
So many poor people need it
How about cheese manufacturers
You would not know it because the milk mafia still sets the price double that of our US neighbour.
In my area, milk is being rationed, along with bread, eggs, potatoes, and butter.
Because of an out dated system. timeforchange
Can they not give it to foodbanks?
2 bag maximum
Give it to families!! Give it to anyone but please don’t dump it!
Who cares
They have been doing this for years. They have a cartel. They protect themselves, lie about costs and get subsidies. They tell the government it cost $12 for 3 bags of milk. Why do you think they fought American milk. Same price, zero government subsidies.
Easy answer sheer stupidity. In hindsight only baby cows should be drinking cows milk.
If it's all going to waste. Y not just give it to people in need? Just seems like a big waste.
Animal farm
Oh look. Capitalism doing what it’s best at. Feeding people.
These ghouls steal milk from grieving mothers. Give it to their babies.
What an utterly unnecessary waste. It's not that there was 'nowhere for it to go'. That's disingenuous. It's that there was no profit. Could've been donated to folks who go hungry every day. Hell, could've probably written some of it off ad charitable donations on your taxes.
Entirely shameful.
Why can’t I buy it in grocery stores then! - signed Confused in Alberta 🥛🍼🐄
I love all the comments from people who obviously didn’t even read the article. Processing plants are at capacity so the ability to donate it is not there.
This is capitalism.
This has been going on for decades, get rid of the quota system
Blame Trudeau. The government protects dairy farmers with the use of a quota system to keep prices high. Farmers cannot sell more than their quota allows, and farmers without a quota cannot sell dairy products because it's against the law. Investigative journalism doesn't exist.
The milk issue is very confusing. I have read that it’s under ordered by restaurants. Meanwhile, I can’t get it at the store because the people not going to restaurants are eating at home and demand at the store has increased. 1/2
This milk should be processed for future use even if it is powdered. Make cheese. Give it to the food banks & shelters. Donate it as part of our Humanitarian Aid Programs to starving nations. Keep the plants working if you can.
Wtf! Try letting some cows hang out in the pasture rather than dump milk. Feed the hungry with it. Let cows roam instead of being caged and pumped during this. Ugh. 🤦♀️ -P Star
fordnation JustinTrudeau something should be done about this! People are struggling and vulnerable. This extra milk should be donated to shelters and food banks. There's probably laws against it but you keep saying it's 'unprecedented times' then take action and stop the waste.
Gotta keep those prices stable!
So that mean the price of milk should be way cheaper now, yea right
YourMorning There has to be a way to give it somewhere. May as well donate it rather than just throwing it out
This cant be true. With kids at home now consumption has to have increased
Travesty. This should have been donated.
Donate it or bring back the milk man & deliver it
cr3 😨
What a waste! There are millions of people dying from hunger every year......make powdered milk and ship it to countries in need
Got milk
And on 9 months we will all be starving
at least give it to the shelters
Give to to families and those in poverty on OW or ODSP ! wow such waste, will remember how this isn't helping the Poor ldnont eliminate the dairy board covid19Canada COVID19Ontario JustinTrudeau fordnation
poor cows have to deal with human stupidity
Fake news
You could have helped the poor families!
Literally no one commenting here has actually read the gddamn article. NO you can’t give raw milk away. NO farmers don’t do any kind of processing or pasteurizing.
Donate or give to more deserving instead of throwing away
God please help the dairy farmers 🙏 tough times.
Don't waste please.. whatever the situation is.. 😓
We are being rationed at grocery stores come on?
Why not donate to the food bank?
Just ablactate the cows and don't inseminate them year after year for your benefit only.
A CRIME. When people are wondering how they will pay for food in the coming months...what a shame. Could this milk not go toward making other food items at least?
why not make ice cream and freeze it
Shame! There are thousands of Manitobans that are out of work and not knowing how to pay for their next meal for their families- this is absolutely shameful
So sad, watched “Market Place” and u need minimum of 3 glass a day if u aren’t lactose intolerant, if u look at the nutrients that milk has. I buy it on a regular basis and we drink it a lot cause if you watch the show it tells you what you have to eat to get the same nutrients
All that torture and suffering and death 😭💔
Lower down the milk price in store
Why aren’t they donating it ?
I guess the homeless and people living in poverty don't matter to the milk mafia
A lot of people could have used the milk
Why dont you donate it to food banks instead of dumping it
They just want money from the government- please donate this milk food banks hospitals and shelters and make this make full cream milk powder it’s safe it donated
Boo hoo for the millionaire quota dairy farmers. Try being a farmer in the west with no support from your government in the past 5 years with tarriffs in countries we usually sell our product to.
Give it to the needy, give it to anyone but don’t dump it. No excuse for that waste when so many are in need
Meanwhile, we can't find Skim milk at $6.50/4litres. We can barely get decent Yogurt like Liberte Greek plain in stores. WTF dump the price down a buck at the store, stop flushing stuff to bump up prices. Wonder why folks are against supply mgt systems?
Could they not send it to a country that’s short of it
Why we need small business farmers again.. who we can buy milk from again.. there are more laws against that then crimes against humanity.. stupidity.. and run by greedy people.. for sure
Donation? I am sure many organizations are in need of this .... drives me crazy to see good wasted when so many are in needs
Liberals in action. They’ll do better tomorrow.
Maybe the death of supply management. We can hope for that silver lining
What a waste. The dairy cows will be pissed at these humans
I will take some please.
Not sure if dumping milk is the last resort, cheese last for long time if made correctly , wasn’t time to make it or some sort of rushed decision ? Perhaps any other country would have been happy with; not dumping milk , maybe
As someone who drinks 12 liters a week and pay upwards of $4 /ltrs, this truly breaks my heart to see
Maybe now with the quarantine the government should have brought milkman drivers back and distribute free milk to the most needed. But hey, this Liberal party only knows how to spend money, not help it's own citizens!
This is really a terrible waste, when there are line ups everywhere of people in need of help feeding their families... please donate to food banks ... I just donated to my community location. 🙏🇨🇦 donatefood StayAtHome
Sad but expected. One day soon they will recover. It happened before it shall again.
Food destruction happens on a regular basis. Every day, every month, every year. Now the media covers it? Someone in the lobby chain wants to protect the price of produce. Simple corporate profiting. Now tell us who they are.
😭😭😭
Shortage if milk on the shelves and limits of 1 and this is happening ?Shaking my head 🙄
Too bad it can’t be used to feed the baby cows.
Such a shame
Don’t ever tell me capitalism works.
It’s 😝 to me that people don’t understand how their milk 🥛 is processed.
Seriously? At a time when many many Canadians don’t know where their next meal will come from ! How about donating it to food banks , sheeters, gift it !
I’m sure the cows are happy taking a break. Maybe even Mother Nature too!
Make protein powder out of it to send to starving children around the world you idiots.
this is your lazy government in Canada open casino and marijuana and you get pay to do not talk about Canada system because you are is in system 300,000 homeless no jobs no low income housing expensive cost of the living
All the hormones and antibiotics in the milk going into the local water supply.
Supply Management ---- This is that ---- Reduce prices for the consumer - do not dump the FOOD and Eggs
I'm no expert but, can this be turned into cheese?
To everyone confused. They are making bagged milk as fast as they can. Restaurants are closed, cheese factories, ice cream plants on Covid shutdown. Lastly, raw milk can kill you, it has to be pasteurized.
Wow that’s a big load lol
Capitalism
Nowhere? They can give it homeless people or food banks. This is really sad.
😳This is disgusting. How wasteful when so many need!😳 Allow people to purchase more so that producers can sell! ShameOnYou
Ahhh....kills me- so many kids in several parts of the world sleep without milk. We live in this crazy world already!!!
Do want cats ? Because this is how you get cats
Then hand it out for free
Pretty common practice stop trying to incite fear you asshats
I hope the sentiment of 'nowhere for it to go' continues long after the pandemic
Wait what? People are still buying milk. We are limited to 2 bags per shop. I would buy more if I could because I don’t want to leave the house very often.
Where are all the cookies?
I’ll take it!
Sad. I'll take it. Loves me some milk.
Can it not be donated to shelters, food banks, hospitals, long-term care facilities?
What
Don’t cry over spilled milk. I’m here all quarantine. Literally though I can’t go anywhere. Try the pork tenderloin.
No need to support the cruel milk industry where calves are torn from their mothers side after the birth! Try oat milk! It’s wonderful and no cruelty is involved!
There are places for it to go. Dairy farmers should contact food banks and work something out with them. What a waste.
