The 10-day camp, which began on Monday, will serve as preparation for this summer’s FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Colombia 2024.
“This project has a couple of objectives,” Canada U-20 head coach Cindy Tye of Halifax said in a news release. “Obviously, it is an important part of our preparations ahead of the World Cup. It also allows us the opportunity to assess new faces in the environment. We are excited to get started and test this group against top competition.”
Archibald, who spent two years with the Whitecaps Women’s Elite Academy Program in Vancouver and is now in her first year at the University of Illinois, is the lone Nova Scotian among the 24 players who travelled overseas with the national team. She suited for Canada in the 2022 FIFA under-17 women’s World Cup and helped lead her country to a bronze medal at the Concacaf U-17 championship later that year. Archibald played in seven matches at the Concacaf U-20 championship as Canada qualified for the World Cup, Aug. 31 to Sept. 22 in Bogota, Cali and Medellin.The camp marks the first gathering of the national team since the Concacaf U-20 championship last June, when Canada clinched a third-place at the 10-day tournament.
