But both Kroeger and Nickelback guitarist Ryan Peake seem to have completely abandoned any hint of rock-star bravado, if they ever possessed it to begin with. Kroeger’s between-song banter still comes across like your charming second cousin giving an impromptu toast at a wedding reception. He still says things like “Do you have any gas left in the tank?” to rev up the crowd.

There is a lot of pyro at a Nickelback show these days, both literally and figuratively. Now 27 years into their career, they remain a reliably stadium-ready unit with a growing catalogue of catchy, sing-a-long songs that rarely push musical boundaries but seem to pump up their fans. Highlights on Sunday included a punchy take on Animal, a tender run through Savin’ Me and an endearingly joyful version of the country-rocker High Time.
