Operating at just 11% capacity now, it’s already the equivalent of taking an estimated 300,000 cars off the road

This spring, as the coronavirus pandemic battered the global oil industry, a 240-kilometre pipeline that could hold the key to Alberta’s future as an oil and gas-producing region quietly opened.

The 14.6 million tonnes of sequestered CO2 represents close to 20 per cent of oilsands emissions, and offsets emissions from more than 2.6 million cars in Alberta. It is currently operating at around 11 per cent of that capacity. Jeff Pearson, president of the carbon business unit at Calgary-based Wolf Midstream, which constructed and operates the pipeline, said there is ample room for growth.

About 300,000 tonnes of the CO2 comes from a Nutrien Ltd.-owned fertilizer manufacturing plant, with the remaining 1.3 million tonnes coming from the North West Redwater Sturgeon Refinery, Pearson said.

MattWolfAB 1...Is it just me or does this defy so much physics and chemistry that you just know its a fiction. Pumping gaseous state material 240 km to pump it in the ground, have it act like a solvent, and yet stay in the ground, never to come out again...2

MattWolfAB Uh.. Pipelines don't capture anything. They move product from one place to another. The article kinda skims over the whole what's actually doing the capture part of the process.

But what business enterprises get all the press?!

Not if JustinTrudeau remains PM. cdnpoli

What energy future? Alberta energy is dead and Justin Trudeau killed it.
