Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, Bel Canto Chorus, and the Sudbury Chamber Singers presentation of Mozart’s Requiem in D minor at Place des Arts

The weekend of March 23 and 24, you can enjoy the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, the Bel Canto Chorus, and the Sudbury Chamber Singers presentation of Mozart’s Requiem in D minor at Place des Arts. The piece is described in a release from the hosts as a “fascinating and emotionally stirring choral masterpiece whose genesis is shrouded in mystery.”

The release states that according to legend, Mozart was “in a depressed state of mind” when he received an anonymous commission to compose a requiem mass. His health was deteriorating, and he “believed he had been cursed to write a requiem as a ‘swansong’ for himself, because he was sure he was about to die.”

Choir master Susan Urquhart will lead the performance, along with special guest conductor, Joshua Wood, who has also been a guest conductor for the Sudbury Symphony on a number of occasions. Wood has performed, conducted, and taught music throughout Canada and the United States and has previously served as music director of the Timmins Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the North Bay Symphony Orchestra.

All of the soloists are from Sudbury or have studied in Sudbury, including Amy Godin Briana Sutherland Ben Done and Dante Mullin . For more information about this event, visit www.sudburysymphony.com or contact la Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury at .
