More aggressive short-term climate goals needed in aviation sector, say NDP, climate activists, by cnockaert_j cdnpoli (subs)

A goal for the aviation industry to source 10 per cent of fuel from sustainable sources by 2030 was set in the Liberal government's aviation climate action plan.

Transport Minister Omar Alghabra released the Liberal government’s aviation climate action plan on Sept. 27, which set a target of net-zero emissions for Canada’s aviation sector by 2050.

cnockaert_j No.

cnockaert_j Or perhaps we can use have LIB/NDP sit on the wings of planes flapping their arms as their alternative 'aviator' fuel.

cnockaert_j Then these hypocrites should be as vehemently opposed to air travel as they are to the oil/gas industry that fuels those planes.

Backbench Liberal MPs demand more clarity on nomination rules if next election happens after redistribution of electoral boundaries processBackbench Liberal MPs say they want more clarity from the party about what to expect when the riding boundaries change after Elections Canada completes its redistribution of electoral boundaries. In interviews with The Hill Times, MPs said that for a majority of the Liberal caucus, this is the first time they’re going through the redrawing of electoral boundaries, and there could be massive changes in their ridings after the process is completed. The next election is scheduled for Oct. 20, 2025, but it could happen sooner because it’s a minority government and the NDP support for the Liberals may not last until then. Liberals say they want to know how money will be divided amongst riding associations after the redistribution process is finalized in 2024, because they are concerned that money they raise now might end up going to someone else’s riding before the next election. Also, they said there could be situations where two MPs want to run in the same riding, or an MP’s riding disappears altogether, and say they need to know how will the party decide who is going to run in which riding. Some expressed concern that it might be technically incorrect to describe themselves as incumbent MPs for the ridings if the geographical boundaries for a vast majority of ridings will change after the redistribution process is completed.  “I don’t know where the money is going to go that I raise now,” said an MP who spoke on a not-for-attribution basis in order to offer their candid opinions. “What happens if I raise $100,000 for my riding association, but the riding association that I take over [after the redistribution] has no money, or very little money in its bank account. … If there’s no election until April 2024, I spend two years knocking on doors and then the new riding kicks in, then I did all this work for someone else.” In early November, the Liberal Party sent out nomination rules for incumbent MPs if they want to carry their party’s banner in the next election without KateMalloy379 abbas_rana1 SHADING THE NEWS...
