Vancouver mayor and police chief to hold press conference Thursday afternoon.

A man charged with two stranger attacks — including a stabbing in Vancouver on Mach 20 — has made his first appearance in court.In one charge, Meades is accused of using a weapon.Meades appeared in Vancouver Provincial Court before Judge Katherine Denhoff on Wednesday. He was moved from a first-appearance court to another room to expedite the hearing.Meades was clad in grey prison sweats and was polite and well spoken in his communications with the judge.

Meades’ past lawyer Robert Frederickson appeared to assist Meades but Denhoff gave Meades a week to get another lawyer.A joint press conference with Vancouver’s mayor and police chief is being held. Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim and Vancouver Police Chief Adam Palmer will speak to the media at 1 p.m. Thursday following a "recent downtown incident."

On Wednesday morning, a man allegedly chased people with a knife near the intersection of Smithe and Beatty streets. One person was stabbed and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 46-year-old man was taken into police custody. Meanwhile, on Monday at 10:45 a.m., a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a stranger while in Stanley Park. Police have a suspect description and have increased patrols in their search for him. Glacier Media will update this story once the details at the press conference are revealed.
