Researchers say the loss of the sense of smell and/or taste experienced by many COVID-19 patients can linger even after all other symptoms have disappeared.

Another surprise came when the patients were asked about their symptoms four weeks after their infection dates. While 36 of the 113 who suffered anosmia and/or dysgeusia reported that they still had coughs, 26 said they had difficulty breathing and five still had fevers, approximately half noted that they had yet to fully recover their lost senses.

"Although altered sense of smell or taste showed an improvement in most cases during the course of the disease, these symptoms were still the most frequently reported by patients with COVID-19 4 weeks after testing," the researchers wrote. There was no correlation between those patients who again tested positive for COVID-19 four weeks after their initial diagnosis and those who were still having trouble smelling or tasting at this point.

You eat less when smell is gone

False, no data

I wonder if it is related to the brain swab they get for testing

Yes. There are also studies that show lingering neurological symptoms and people experiencing weird symptoms months after being infected.

Canada's long-term care system failed elders, before and during COVID-19: reportA new report on the COVID-19 crisis in long-term care homes has concluded that Canada failed in its duty to protect its elders. Having seen these homes for years and always asking questions and filling out surveys and talking to exhausted staff - big yes to this COVID simply shone a light that everyone saw at once. I've said this since the 1990s when all levels of government abandoned the elderly and wanted to throw them in closets and look the doors. LTC in Canada prior to 1990s was No.1 in the world! Sending COVID patients into nursing homes is what failed elders. But that was the government and health care 'experts' who made that decision, so let's scape goat the nursing homes.
