Demonstrations in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs have stretched into three weeks.

Protesters stand next to the tracks as a CN train moves through Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, near Belleville, Ont., on Feb. 26, 2020.

“The blockades obviously need to end for the sake of our economy and the disruption of people’s lives,” Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith told HuffPost Canada. Federal engagement is not the obstacle in the way of a resolution, he said. Protests have been organized with the hashtag #ShutDownCanada in response to the RCMP enforcing an injunction against Wet’suwet’en Nation members earlier this month blocking pipeline construction along the proposed route.

Toronto MP Julie Dzerowicz stressed that a fast resolution is key to stopping “copycat” issues from popping up across the country. Protesters gather in the streets of Ottawa on Feb. 24, 2020 in support of a small group fighting construction of a natural gas pipeline on indigenous lands in British Columbia.

Copycat protests? I'm sure we have enough indigenous people and allies to continue with the authentic protests...

You are 3 weeks too late for that!

there is no substitute for respecting sovereign unceded territory of another people/nation. If police/companies tried this on bordering Russian territory they'd be met by troops with machine guns & threats of air-strikes

Oh well then I’m sure they’ll obey that “stern” statement. Good God - day after day the Liberals have managed to make this worse. We need strong leadership - not this Justin Lame Duck hiding in his safe space.

Too late - your ( HuffPost and Liberals) paralysis has caused more incidents for the 'incident response team' Thank God there is a incident response team. What a great leader for having created that.

See I knew conservatives didn’t really want the blockades down!

This might help a bit

First train runs through Tyendinaga as cross-country protests mountThe first train since Feb. 6 ran through Tyendinaga after police dismantled a Mohawk blockade and arrested 10 people who were protesting the construction of the Coastal GasLink natural gas pipeline in northern B.C. Acting against the wishes of the Wet’suwet’en First Nations community itself who not only voted to approve the pipeline but have also made it very clear that the protesters do not speak for them is NOT solidarity It is exploitation in pursuit of personal ideological agendas

Blockade protests show signs of settling into cycle of crackdown and escalationThe demonstrations, sparked by opposition to a proposed B.C. gas line, have already become the defining challenge of Justin Trudeau’s second term as PM WAMA1 JUdges need to hold all arrestees without bail. THAT will break the cycle It’s time to end all treaties in Canada with indigenous people they were based on mutual respect and co-operation that no longer exists. cdnpoli Protesters can't take our economy hostage. Blocking the railways has a serious repercussion on our economy and our country. They need to clear the tracks now otherwise, the government should force a solution.
