Grandpere’s love builds a Viking ship in West Pubnico | SaltWireIt is becoming increasingly apparent to me that Cape Bretoners are the authors of our own demise. We continue to allow party politics to be our downfall and we have historically always been that way. Why are we so easily fooled by these politicians who all promise to do the right thing, until they are elected.
When I was attending the new Cape Breton Regional Municipality Assembly of Concerned Citizens meeting recently, one of the members approached me and said, “you know that Cape Breton Island was illegally annexed and that has never been addressed in Ottawa” and the gentleman continued to say “the province cannot lose Cape Breton because they would lose too much equalization funding.”
Once the meeting was over, I thought to myself, this guy has a point. Then I reflected to myself about all the political parties that have been in power in Nova Scotia and how they all ignored Cape Breton and rural Nova Scotia. The PCs, the Liberals and the NDPs have all had the opportunity to make life better for us, but none have done so. Why?
