Keith Dewar, former mayor of Victoria, said he stepped down from the position following council's discussion on how to move forward after the term of the municipality's current interim chief administrative officer finished. Dewar said he was the best candidate to step in as temporary CAO as it aligned with his schedule and other life commitments. Cody McEachern • The GuardianVICTORIA, P.E.I.

“We talked about it around council , and we said one of the options was for one of us to resign and take on the support and oversight of our new finance and admin support person and take on the duties of the CAO until we figure out a longer-term future for the municipality,” he said. The change in roles has left Dewar with a whole new set of responsibilities and has changed the way he is expected to work with the municipality, he said.

“When Keith made the decision, which we all agreed with as council and felt this was the best way forward at this point, that meant I was going up to the role of mayor,” she said. Smith said the goal is to finish the study before the next election in November to allow council to make its decision on moving forward.
