RELATED: The Public Health Agency of Canada says whooping cough has been reported in some provinces. The agency says whooping cough , otherwise known as pertussis, is highly contagious. It can lead to pneumonia, brain damage and death. Katherine Ward has the story – Mar 6, 2024issued a statement on Tuesday regarding the cases, advising parents and guardians to ensure their child’s immunizations are up to date and on file with the health unit.
“Please familiarize yourself with the symptoms of pertussis and seek medical care if your child has these symptoms. Pertussis can be treated with antibiotics. Lastly, and most importantly, always ensure your child’s routine vaccinations are up to date and have been reported to the local public health unit.”
