A health scare motivated Lynda Powell of MacLellan’s Brook to lose 120 pounds. The first step was committing to getting her health back.A fit and active member of Pictou County Y, Lynda Powell is the woman she always wanted to be.
In 2017 Powell, weighing 280 pounds and by her own admission headed toward 300, went reluctantly to see a doctor because she suspected she had a hernia. “So there I am, wearing some sort of tent, praying I don’t break the bike and along comes the fittest man I know to this day. But there was kindness and encouragement in Merton’s words and as stressed as I was, I took his advice. Somehow I made it to the end of the class. Accomplishing that much, gave me strength to continue.”
She remembers one special occasion, well into her weight loss, when her husband had a chocolate dessert while she was content with a plate of fruit.
