Deputy Chief of Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Retires

Robert ‘Bob’ MacLachlan was hired in January of 2019 and has made “immeasurable" contributions to the local force, according to a news release issued today by Sault Police.“With more than 40 years of policing experience , Sault Police is fortunate to benefit from Deputy Chief MacLachlan’s knowledge and experience to further the service’s initiatives, both internally and externally.”

In the news release, MacLachlan thanked the people of Sault Ste. Marie and Prince Township for being so welcoming. “Since my appointment, I have pursued advancements in community safety and strived to advance community safety in all aspects,” he stated. “It has been the thrill of my career to serve as deputy chief and thank the Police Services Board for allowing me the honour of this post.”

“I feel as a Senior Command team, we have steered the service to prepare for the future with an increased compliment of officers and technological advances.” A third-party vendor has already started the search for a new deputy chief and MacLachlan’s replacement is expected to be appointed in January.

Teen Charged with Impaired Driving Following Highway CrashA 16-year-old teenager from Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with impaired driving after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 17. Ontario Provincial Police responded to the scene and found the vehicle damaged. The driver was suspected of consuming alcohol and was charged accordingly.
