Going through her third divorce and overwhelmed by thoughts of suicide, Sammi Tucker didn’t truly lose control until she hit a patch of broken-up asphalt on her motorcycle.
At that moment, Tucker looked back on her life and faced an uncomfortable truth: “I didn’t have anything that I was really proud of,” she says. “I realized that I had left a lot of unhappiness and chaos behind me.”“I melted into the fabric of the universe,” she says. “I was no longer all of the things that I thought I was. I was no longer my name, my body, my job.
A few years later, in the office of a prosthetist, she ran into Jeff Fabry, a 2012 Paralympic archery gold medalist. That chance meeting would change her life. In Tucker, Fabry saw a special talent. “He showed me how to shoot with my mouth and really put in that spark of ‘Hey, If you want this, you could make the Paralympic team,’” she says.
“I had to create an imaginary world in my mind where I had already gone through these competitions and already done these things,” she says. Eventually, as she climbed the archery ranks, she began endorsing CBD products from Kannaway, a subsidiary from Medical Marijuana, Inc. As she rose through the ranks, that relationship would turn into an endorsement deal.
“It was more than I ever could have expected,” she says. “It was the toughest, stiffest competition that I’ve ever been under.”
