“In the future, the Canadian dollar will remain at the centre of our current financial system,” Macklem said during evening testimony at the Senate banking committee on April 27. “We have our Canadian currency, and we have a certain exchange rate. So, we need a monetary policy in Canada for Canadians which reflects the needs of Canadians.”

“In a digital economy, there are reasons why this might be good for Canadians to have the opportunity to have a cryptocurrency or digital funds in the central bank,” Macklem said. “We’ll be ready when the time comes to make a decision. Right now, it’s being looked at.”whether the private sector is taking the lead on regulatory conversations
