The mounting strain on Ontario's health-care system constitutes a real "crisis," a high-ranking health-care executive in the province said Wednesday, even as the Ford government sought to downplay the severity of the situation.
Staff shortages have been reported at hospitals across the province over the last few months, resulting in the temporary closure of emergency rooms and intensive care units operating at or dangerously close to capacity. But for all patients admitted to hospital from emergency rooms, just 24 per cent were admitted within a target time of eight hours. Those people — many of the sickest patients— spent an average of 20.1 hours in the emergency room.
He said emergency health-care leaders from across the province agreed on a call Wednesday that “it's a very serious situation where they're not able to do the jobs in the way that they want to because of these long waits.” In an interview Wednesday, UHN President and CEO Kevin Smith acknowledged that Toronto General currently has “more vacancies than we normally would” though exact figures were not available.meaning that the three intensive care units at the hospital are at or near capacity and are triaging patients.
“It’s understandable — these are very challenging times — and working as long and as hard as these folks have been working, they are very, very challenged and their resilience is really at a low point.”

In 2019, Matt Anderson was hired to end hallway medicine. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. A.Jadad, and his team were able to end hallway medicine for 1.3 million people in less than 18 months. Why does ON still have this problem? Is this incompetence or corruption? Here is the blueprint UofT
This manager is doing what is expected from him: to ensure that hospital inefficiency is optimized, so that issues such as hallway medicine result in constantly increasing budgets, regardless of healthcare outcomes or quality of patient care.Sunnybrook OslerHealth nationalpost
Add to this: Ontario’s Healthcare Managers: One- A nurse who was allowed to have two full-time jobs, selected to be CEO of UHN ... Two- He was behind the eHealth Ontario scandal where Ontario lost $ 8 billion, selected to be the CEO of OntarioHealthOH. Who should care?
Here's a publicly funded, fully integrated health system plan, cheaper than most health insurances and ranked 1 among all OECD countries. There is no justification for having private care other than incompetence or corruption fordnation OntariosDoctors cdavidnaylor CNN
Fire a few dozen 'high-ranking executives' and see what happens. Guaranteed things change.
Meanwhile CP24 has been all for forced jabs on the population, Lockdowns and school closures.
Roman_Baber warned fordnation. bringthemback
I thought we kept schools closed to preserve hospital capacity? Wrong again.
unvaccinated doctors and nurses were fired it's been almost 3 years, nothing has changed, no funding, no hospitals built.
I couldn't believe I saw that Sick Kids is short staffed. I never in my wildest dreams thought that they would be short staffed. There are/were nurses in my family and their goal was 'to be a nurse at The Hospital for Sick Children'. This is a crisis.
Everything happening now with our healthcare was happening before the last election. Why did you CP24 not report any of this until after Doug Ford won another majority?
Well no shit u make ur employees work 5-6, 12 hour shifts a week, expect it, just horrible management
cancer treatments of special sucicides or the file in the exotic compure of medication requests by chart parameters
The pandemic broke a shaky system. The hospital and unions negotiated a 1% deal. Ford does nothing to help. This is a long time in coming. If healthcare is valued in Canada it needs to be treated as such.
Glad my tax money is hard at work. 🤦🏻♂️
If healthcare is overloaded with major delays, can Trudeau slow down 1.5m newcomers as majority go to GTA
A crisis! Had to leave the ER at 3am cuz I couldn’t wait any more, there was only 1 dr and sooo many people 😭
SylviaJonesMPP: ‘We want to make sure that the healthcare collapse is actually happening at all our hospitals!’
SylviaJonesMPP: ‘It’s too hard to figure out! I give up!’
Lol hire all the ppl you fired that didn’t wanna take the Jab 🤷🏾♂️
it’s actually the fault of the Twitter doctors and healthcare experts who have been crying for the last 2 and a half years. Now that the system is on the verge of collapse not many of us are responding to it, we’re numb.
Yet how many people are we allowing into the country per year?
Is this related to record number of people leaving Ontario?
News flash this has been going on long before the pandemic ffs.
Perhaps they should hire back the healthy unjabbed.
Ontario is the province where health care is not 100% covered and people like mr Ford keeps cutting services and he wants to blame everyone else
NewWorldOrder...
EastEndCommuni1 “Hold on a second, I only said to fire unvaccinated nurses and doctors. I didn’t say to reduce the workforce at hospitals.” -Ontario Doctor Twitter
CP reporting news. Wtf was this during election?!?
User fees at the ER will straighten things out quickly
They’re setting people up for lockdowns.
Totally the fault of Hospital administrations and unions.
Jab backfiring tonnes of the jabbed are sick that includes doctors and nurses are sick
Hire back the nurses you fired because they refused the jab or SHUT THE FROCK UP. Nursing unpaid leave since Oct 2021 - wanting desperately to return to their jobs = 1000 plus of them
Yup and Doug Fords answer is “ please Justin Trudeau help us” use the HUGE lost funds first Doug!!!!!
Ford’s FAULT.
Cp24 tried hard to add shock value to their headline by saying high ranking 👍 nice try...NOT
He also said if you show up at emergency with an actual emergency you'll be taken care of just fine. We do fill up that unit with people with runny noses etc been that way for ages.
Yes one would call this a crisis
