CRA no longer requiring 'bare trust' reporting in 2023 tax return

The Canada Revenue Agency says it will be pausing its new 'bare trust' reporting just days before its filing deadline. The Canada Revenue Agency announced Thursday it will not require "bare trust" reporting from Canadians that it introduced for the 2024 tax season, just four days before the April 2 deadline.

Examples include if a parent is on title of a child's home – without the parent having beneficial ownership – to help the child obtain a mortgage, or a corporate bank account is opened by the shareholders with the corporation being the beneficial owner of the funds.
