On Tuesday, as British Columbia reported another 695 cases of COVID-19, its provincial health officer,to focus on getting first doses of vaccine into the arms of all adults, and thus delaying second doses for up to four months, saying, “I am so confident that the decision we made over the past weekend to extend that interval is the best one based on the science and data that we have to maximize the benefit to everyone in B.C.
Quebec’s decrease in new cases continued on Tuesday when the province announced 588 cases of COVID-19, its lowest daily count since late September. In the past week, the province’s daily average has been 753 cases, down from 782 in the previous week. The continued plateauing of new cases in big provinces including Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia has caused the national rate of new cases to remain near 80 per million population for more than two weeks. While that rate has dropped significantly since January, it’s still nearly double the peak of the spring wave.As cases essentially plateau, the number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is also showing signs of levelling off.
We're doing well. Recent increases in death rates in Ontario and Alberta - however slight - are concerning, however.
