In the middle of an acute shortage of housing, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation is conducting an in-depth study to figure out how much more the country will need over the next eight years.

There’s a “mismatch” between buyers and available homes, said Romy Bowers, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation ’s president and CEO, testifying to the committee on Friday. “Canada’s housing system is complex, and there are a number of reasons for the steep, continued price escalation,” Bowers said.

Why isn't cdnpoli regulating the real estate market? It will cost less public money to build a thousand homes that will end up in investor hands anyway. In what reality is a 26% increase in homes acceptable.

There is no housing crunch... We are swimming in supply. Housing starts have far outpaced housing needs based on population growth for the better part of a decade now based on umbers from StatsCan. We're in a speculative bubble causing an ever-escalating affordability crunch.
