Employees who buy their own N95 masks and bring them to work are being told to switch to company issued cloth masks or risk being sent home.
Canada Post said Public Health Agency of Canada supports the use of cloth masks and that the company following directives from the ESDC that require employees to wear company supplied masks to ensure their quality. “Canada Post continues to monitor best practices and recommendations with respect to face coverings, and will update our requirements accordingly.”

What I've seen often in other industries where they are given company 'approved' masks to wear, some employees will wear their personal N95 mask and then put the company issue mask over top of it. It's well worth it for the protection value.
Some of these corporate rules are stupid. Just wear the crappy cloth ones overtop of a superior mask.

Came back from my 14 day isolation and decided to use my N95 just for extra precautions. I was told to change it or put the ones they've provided us over it and I did. They just don't want to have to pay for them, but if we have our own, why can't we use them?

I got my booster at Scarborough Town Centre on December 21st. They made me wear a surgical mask over my N95 mask?!?!? I couldn’t proceed in, unless I wore it? That is just plain stupid! Civil Servants are are truly from planet Mars!
Ultimately, though, if N95s are superior, why are they not provided these in the first place? Seems like an admission of lower quality protection.

Seems like an unreasonable policy, at first blush. However, workplaces have an obligation to protect workers. Allowing Ees to bring their own will be difficult to monitor, and may, overall, reduce safety. The risk may be unacceptable, when viewed from this perspective.

not sure what's going on here. I worked in a Canada Post sorting facility over Christmas, they did provide masks, but we were also allowed to wear the standard blue medical mask that we brought ourselves. There is no strict rule that employees have to wear the masks provided.
