Upper Canada was a leader in the anti-slavery movement. In 1793, Lieutenant-Gov JG Simcoe, ushered in the first anti-slavery bill ever passed in the British Empire. This set the stage for the Underground Railroad, which brought 30-40,000 enslaved Black people to safety.

Slavery ended in 1834, well before Canada became a Nation. There were also many white indentured slaves in Canada as well. But I’m not having a hissy fit requiring an apology.

This is complete nonsense

How about apologies for jews that were turned away at the beginning of ww2 since we didn't want none of that oh wait that's right fuck eh

Didn't slaves escape to Canada? I'm confused

Yes and while your at it ask him to apologize on behalf of his step daddy for “The White paper”

I'm sure JustinTrudeau has a special way of apologizing 🤣

Who isn’t crying victim anymore ,,I never owned a slave my parents grand parents and great grand parents never owned a slave why should we apologize I don’t recal getting a apology for all the hate crime and religious bullshit telling me how to live my GAY life

Are they going to apologize for the amount of crime that has been dumped on to the city and the tax money that has been drained? Or they always going to play victim?

what country are they supposed to apologize for? or are you just spreading more division. time to stop funding these people and spend the money on useful forward looking projects

Constantly playing the victim is a form of manipulation, and abuse.

I am actually a bit surprised since the PM and his current administration have made a cottage industry of apologizing for numerous events/issues..

Ya, this is stupid.

I’ve never owned a slave. My parents never owned a slave. My grandparents never owned a slave. No one has apologized to me for the French taking over England in 1066. I’m insulted and DEMAND reparations from Québec and France

I kind of support this move by Ottawa. Slavery had long since been abolished by the time Canada officially became Canada, so the federal government has nothing to apologize for.

How can Ottawa apologize for something that was never practiced in Canada?
